Use AI to understand yourself
Before you use AI to produce, use it to reflect. Build cognitive mirrors that show you how you think.
- Start when
- You need to understand how you think before choosing what to build.
- What you’ll make
- Personal cognitive mirror and bridge to creation
See the work behind the path
Each example shows work, a session, or writing that shaped this path. Use it to decide whether the instruction fits your work.
Know whether this is your path
Use this path if
- You are curious about AI but do not have a specific project yet.
- You want to understand how you think, not just collect answers.
- You already journal or reflect and want a practical place to begin.
Choose another path if
- You already know what you need to build.
- You need to ship a working product next week.
- You want AI to do the thinking for you.
The cognitive mirror
AI reflects your thinking back to you. It can reveal patterns in how you frame, revise, and decide; it does not decide what you should think.
Five stages to the finished work
Each stage has a practical stopping condition. Move on when the checkpoint is true, not when the time estimate expires.
- 00
Notice your prompts
1–2 daysGoalObserve how you already ask, revise, and respond.
Done whenYou can explain what made one prompt useful and another one weak.
- 01
Build your first mirror
1 weekGoalCreate one repeatable prompt that reflects your thinking.
Done whenYou have a working mirror prompt and an example of what it revealed.
- 02
Iterate and version
1–2 weeksGoalChange the mirror in response to what its output misses.
Done whenYou have a second or third version and can name what changed.
- 03
Use multiple modes
2–3 weeksGoalBuild different mirrors for different kinds of decisions.
Done whenYou have at least three prompts for distinct situations.
- 04
Move from reflection to creation
OngoingGoalUse what you learned about your thinking to make something.
Done whenYou have created an artifact another person can read, use, or test.
